Before you go on and read my bio, the main thing to know about me is that I am a storyteller. I love delving deep into an organisation and discovering what makes them tick. The stories that have heart resonate the strongest. These are the ones I work to uncover, to write, and to share. Communication and public relations is all about telling stories; it is how we connect, engage, and relate to those around us.

I am a senior communication and public relations practitioner with professional experience gained across corporate, government, agency, and the not-for-profit sectors within Australia, New Zealand and Asia. 

 

In 2009, I decided to consolidate my experience and expertise and channel it into my own consulting practice, and set up Catalyst Communication Consulting Ltd. I am commercially astute and able to design and deliver comprehensive and integrated communication solutions that meet strategic business needs and address multiple stakeholder requirements. 

 

My background and passion is for external communications, media management, stakeholder engagement and reputation management, as well as issues and crisis management. I thrive in challenging, fast paced, and complex operating environments, demonstrating strong leadership expertise and sound judgement, which has also been described as grace under pressure. I am always willing to 'roll my sleeves up' and implement activities to deliver to strategy. 

 

One of my greatest accomplishments was working as part of the Zespri Crisis Response Team at the time of the Psa bacteria outbreak and MAF biosecurity incursion. Supporting New Zealand's kiwifruit growers through the development and execution of an integrated issues management, media and stakeholder communication strategy enabled timely, consistent and open communication throughout a complex, highly emotive and issues-rich environment. This work was recognised with a PRINZ Supreme Award.

 

Collaboration and co-creation is a critical part of how I operate, rapidly building strong working relationships with the people around me and with industry leaders, third party organisations and key opinion leaders. I am a demonstrated people leader and am committed to giving back by supporting, inspiring, and managing individuals and teams to perform at their best. There is power and true value in diversity and creativity. 

 

I hold a Master of Arts (MA) in Communication Management from the University of Technology Sydney, and an Honours Degree in Science (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology). As an interesting fact, I started life as an Industrial Chemist and then worked in medical research. Over the years I realised there was so much amazing science being conducted and the lay-person couldn't understand it or it simply wasn't reported on. Working as a science communicator and educator started me on my journey to become a corporate communication consultant.

 

Science, health, and medical research will always be a passion for me. I am proud to be a founding Director of the Meningitis Foundation Aotearoa New Zealand and I give my time to raising awareness and educating people about meningitis and meningococcal disease.
